Egis Pharmaceuticals RT ("Egis") (pharmaceuticals) -
part of advisory team including: NatWest Markets and its subsidiary Wood Mackenzie; and local investment banking firm Eurocorp International Finance Rt. Appointed by the leading Hungarian pharmaceuticals company Egis to advise it on the completion of its privatisation by the sale of the majority shareholding held equally between the Hungarian State Asset Holding Company (AVRt) and the European Bank (EBRD). Responsible for full due diligence, profiling of Company's product range and research and development activities, organising and managing a limited international competitive tender amongst five short-listed strategic investors, and advising on the negotiations with the successful bidder. Egis was sold to Servier of France in 1995 for some US$ 90 million.
Central-European International Bank Ltd. ("CEIB") (financial institutions) -
a unique foreign consortium bank established in the previously centrally planned economy, CEIB was well positioned to take advantage of increasing opportunities arising from the economic reforms but was facing increasing competition from foreign banks entering the market either directly or by buying privatising state owned banks. Assisted CEIB in establishing a US$ 150 million Term Loan and Revolving Credit Facility with a syndicate of international banks that significantly improved CEIB's competitive position by enhancing liquidity and extending its debt maturities. This was CEIB's first international borrowing against its own balance sheet and without shareholder guarantees.
Matáv Hungarian Telecommunications Company Ltd ("Matáv") (telecommunications) -
privatised by international competitive tender in 1993, Hungary's national telecommunications company Matáv was owned by a joint venture between Deutsche Telekom and Ameritech International Communications (stake subsequently acquired by Deutsche Telekom). Assisted in raising a US$ 250 million Revolving Credit Facility in 1995 which was used to expand the Company's fixed line network. This was the first borrowing against Matáv's own balance sheet without any form of third party support.
